Window to the Soul

Full Sensorium Self Discovery

Window to the Soul (Images below)

A soulscape for those who want to explore the depths of their own goodness by imitating creation's processes for going deeper.  Many people enjoy a triple window in their living space.  Repetition of patterns in nature slows our space-time-rhythm, and gently encourages us to take time for reflection and processing so that we learn through fractal awareness.  Three windows can be an invitation to look deeply into your own soul.  Here's an easy meditation practice that this soulscape might inspire:

The Left Window is for Nesting/Rooting

We ground ourselves with gentle tai chi/qi gong movement on the nesting rug. Then we settle into stillness.

  • Simple art, photography (a cellphone camera will work), and journaling implements invite a daily gratitude meditation for the many gifts we have received.

  • Breath-work is an excellent way to calibrate our breathing to enter into stillness each morning and activate each of our five senses.

  • If you can open the windows to enjoy the symphony of creation, all the better. Otherwise, listen with the inner ear to attune your senses to the present moment.

The Center Window is for Going Deeper/Exploring

  • Notice what draws attention and stokes the senses as you gaze outside. What attracts us tells us a lot about who we are in our depths.  What can you learn about yourself when you gravitate toward what you love in nature - water, or tulip bulbs, shade trees, or moonlight?  We lean into what we need for growth and fuller life.

  • What sparks your curiosity? Use a set of binoculars or a telescope, or perhaps a magnifier or microscope to invite the macrocosm and the microcosm into your awareness.

  • Consult a great nature book or article, podcast, or documentary that interests you. Learn something new about the world around you, or explore something you've never tried, a new veggie or birdsong.  There are not enough moments in a lifetime to explore and learn all there is to learn about creation.

The Right Window is for Soaring/Integration

We are learning when we are making connections. Nature does this constantly by taking in new information, processing, and adapting. This is why nature is such an excellent exemplar and resource for us.

For stoking the imagination and integrating what you are learning, connect one thing you've noted from your work with the left window, and one from your work with the center window to create a new connection.

  • For example, combine breath-work (from your left window practice) with something you've discovered or learned about yourself (from your center window meditation).  You could breathe in and note your own kindness and compassion, then breathe out, and note how tenderly and tenaciously birds feed and care for their young. Breathe in and acknowledge your hopes for your life, then breathe out, and see the garden veggies coming to fruition.

  • Connect a gift you already have (from your left window meditation) with something that sparks your curiosity about creation (from your center window meditation).  For example, if you have a gift for hosting great parties, how might you connect it with your curiosity about robins nesting in the spring?

Whenever we make connections, we learn something.  This three window meditation is just one way to help stoke your nature-loving soul!
